CosmoDog

Feature Film Project

CosmoDog is a campy sci-fi story about friendship, betrayal and jellyfish. An offbeat take on the space race and the importance of protecting our planet.

Laika is a dog who just wants a place to call home. After being whisked off the streets of Moscow and trained to be a Cosmodog, she thinks her dreams have come true. But once blasted into orbit aboard Sputnik 2, Laika discovers what trust and love is really all about.

Swinging, cosmo-politan Martians save Laika from her over-heating spaceship and take her to their colony on the dark side of the moon. When her deafening bark wreaks havoc on their antennae, the Martians fit Laika with a collar that allows her to speak. We learn she’s totally hilarious and supremely charismatic.

She’s the exact opposite of Sam, the American monkey she rescues when his spaceship crash lands. Sam is uptight, annoyingly rational and charmingly arrogant. At first enemies, their friendship blossoms when they learn they were both betrayed by humans.

The animals dive into the Martian way of life- taught to them by Neon, the light-bulb-headed son of lead Scientist, Dr. Phobos. Martians come in a range of head shapes. Light-bulb headers tend to be highly intellectual. With Laika’s crazy antics and Sam’s charm they become celebrities among the hipster Martian crowd. But it’s not all glitzy-domed nightclubs and kooky contraptions for the two Earthlings. The jug-headed General Tharsis, (who distrusts humans for their emotions but has an unhealthy obsession with jellyfish) and Deimos, his bullying, hot-rodding son, make life decidedly un-cool for Laika, Sam and Neon.

Back on Earth, things are getting personal between US General Hoover and USSR General Ivanovich. Motherlands and mothers are insulted. And when these whiskey and vodka-swilling psychos go rogue, nukes are fired!

With Neon’s help, Laika and Sam take out the nukes. But when they return to the colony, General Tharsis is convinced he must destroy all humans- to save the jellies, of course! Now it’s up to two frisky animals to save humanity.
